Clinical Practicum Description

Empowered Voice Rehabilitation LLC is looking for a strong graduate student clinician, who appreciates working with patients in functional settings. The qualified candidate will be able to write meaningful short-term/long term goals and have successful outcomes. Focus is on patients who have voice/resonance disorders (including singing voice, craniofacial disorders, EILO, etc.), dysphagia, upper airway disorders, motor speech disorders, and aphasia/comm-cognitive deficits. Graduate student clinician must also be passionate about learning to work with the PD population and willing to complete a 10-hour online training and learn how to implement the SPEAK OUT!® protocol. Please note this is not a full-time, 40 hours a week clinical placement, and hours are variable to some degree. Please contact the clinical supervisor for further details.

Position Summary

Provides speech-language pathology services to patients in varying states of health and illness.  The speech-language pathologist (SLP) graduate student clinician functions as an essential member of the therapy team, providing direct care to patients.  They provide evaluation and differential diagnosis of the voice, upper airway, swallowing, and/or cognitive-communication disorder, treatment and symptom monitoring, and education and counseling to the patient, family, or care provider. The speech language pathologist graduate student clinician demonstrates progressive knowledge and sense of responsibility with a variety of specialized equipment including videostroboscopy and FEES, according to established practices. The speech-language pathologist graduate student clinician demonstrates dedication to professional growth and development and strives toward the continuous improvement of patient care. The speech-language pathologist (SLP) graduate student clinician may be involved in consultative services within the organization and in the community.

EDucation

Currently obtaining a Master's Degree from an Accredited Speech-Language Pathology program; Current BLS certification.

Experience

The qualified graduate student clinician needs to have a passion for working with adults and children using best practice and evidence-based models in the areas of voice, dysphagia, upper airway disorders, aphasia, and cognitive-communication disorders. Electronic documentation, insurance systems, and billing, including Medicare, Medicaid, CPT codes, and ICD-10 are required learning during this practicum. Open communication and cultural humility are necessities.
