How are vocal fold nodules treated?

Voice therapy is the gold standard treatment for vocal fold nodules. Voice therapy is aimed at eliminating or reducing behaviors that cause vocal fold trauma, such as habitual loud talking or throat clearing. People generally underestimate the effect and importance of such behaviors and recurrent or stubborn cases may result from poor control of these factors. Surgical interventions may also be considered depending on the severity. With any surgical procedure there is a risk of scar tissue formation. If scar tissue forms on the vocal folds, permanent changes to the voice can occur.
